Opposition Congress in Himachal Pradesh on Wednesday condemned the murder of Assistant Town and Country Planner Shail Bala while bringing down the unauthorised construction.
They gathered at Rajiv Bhavan state party headquarter and criticised Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur and his government for deteriorating law and order and burnt his effigy.
Shail Bala died on Tuesday when she went to the spot along with a police team to demolish a illegal structure as per Supreme Court's directive. As per reports, protests were lodged in the state on the Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee's call.
HPCC president Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu led the agitation at district headquarter Hamirpur at Gandhi Chowk and held demonstration along with the party workers. The Congress party workers held demonstration, raised slogans against the incumbent state government and also burnt the effigy of Chief Minister.
He said that incident shocked the entire state as the officer lost her life while on duty. The HPCC leader alleged that after assuming power, the law and order has worsened in the state of as anti-social elements are being given free hand to indulge in such incidents as there was no sufficient response to counter such incidents.
He alleged that the way the security forces remained a mute spectator on the spot was embarrassing when the administration did not take sufficient measures. The culprit was still at large as the police have to announce reward money which has exposed the functioning of the home department currently with the Chief minster. Seeking arrest of the accused, the Congress leader said that trail of the crime should be done in fast track court to punish the guilty.
He also expressed condolence to the bereaved family of the TCP official and prayed for the speedy recovery of the Public Works Department (PWD) employee who was seriously injured during the incident. The Congress leaders and workers also protested and staged a 'dharna' in Solan against the firing incident. (UNI)
