Union Minister for Commerce and Industry and Civil Aviation Suresh Prabhu on Saturday said that Goa had all the potential to become Startup capital of the nation and startups would be the new engine of growth for Goa.
Delivering keynote address on the occasion of Goa Startup and Innovation Day being celebrated in the city, he said,'' Startups are idea driven, everybody sees the same thing but those who have innovative ideas succeed.''
"In the year 2017, 36 per cent growth was registered in setting up of Startups. That is a tremendous success. Goa will be the future hub of Startups. 'Invest India' a venture under the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion, Ministry of Commerce and Industries, Government of India, is working on investment opportunities in Goa. Global Venture capitalists are also coming to Goa in the month of July to discuss Startup investment opportunities in Goa. 'Logistics Hub' will also be the new identity of Goa,'' he said.
The Minister said as part of 'ease of doing business' initiative, government was working on changing the old set of rules and regulations to meet the new culture of business, he said.
Earlier, the Union Minister launched Startup policy, Schemes and Startup Portal at the event held at Maquinez Palace, Entertainment Society of Goa, ESG, in the city.
Goa Minister for Information and Technology Rohan Khaunte, Chief Secretary Dharmendra Sharma and Director, IT Department, Amey Abhyankar were also present on the occasion.
More than 100 entrepreneurs, investors, corporate partners, embassies and trade bodies participated in the two-day 'Goa Start up and Innovation Day' event. (UNI)
