Uttar Pradesh government has suspended two doctors and two nurses at the Maharani Laxmi Bai Jhansi Medical college hospital after a shocking incident of medical negligence of using a severed leg of an accident victim as a pillow.

State Health and Medical Education Minister Ashutosh Tandon on late Saturday night ordered suspension of the four medical staff in the emergency ward which included two doctors.

The suspended doctors are Mahendra Singh, senior resident Alok Agarwal and two nurses-- Deepa Narang and Shashi Srivastava.

The minister said that departmental proceedings would be initiated against the consultant doctor -- Praveen Saraogi – who was supposed to be on call in an emergency but failed to respond in time.

Dr Sadhna Kaushik, Principal,Maharani Laxmi Bai Medical College said that the victim was given immediate medical aid.

"Doctor looked for something to raise his head. Patient's attendant used the leg for the same. We've set up committee. Strict action will be taken if our staff is found to be at fault," she said.

Ghanshyam (28), a school bus conductor, lost one of his legs when the bus turned turtle in Lehcura area in Jhansi district on Saturday. He was standing at the gate of the bus. Around half a dozen students were injured in the accident. UNI
