Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav has hoped that by-elections to Gorakhpur and Phulpur Lok Sabha seats on Sunday will create a new history in the country.
“Today is the day to change and create a new history. We went with everyone and now people will see the unity. This bypolls would change the fate of the country and it will also have revolutionary and decisive results," Akhilesh said in a tweet on Sunday morning. However, some confusion arose after the SP president tweeted the same and later withdrew. But after sometime he again retweeted the same when people asked him the reason for withdrawing the tweet. Meanwhile, polling in Gorakhpur and Phulpur Lok Sabha by-elections was yet to pick up as till 10 am the voting percentage was around 8 per cent.
Election Commission sources here said that till 9 am the polling percentage of just 5.80 per cent with Gorakhpur recording 6.80 per cent and Phulpur just 4.80 per cent. There was no report of any violence or irregularities in the bypolls so far.(UNI)
