An estimated 55.77 percent electorate exercised their franchise amid elaborate security arrangements to decide fate of 38 candidates in by-elections for one Lok Sabha and two assembly seats which passed off peacefully on Sunday.
Chief Electoral Officer Ajay V Nayak told media persons here that a total of 55.77 electorate exercised their franchise in by-elections held for Araria Lok Sabha seat, Jehanabad Assembly seat and Bhabhua Assembly seat. No untoward incident was reported from any part of all the three constituencies where polling was held, he stated.
Nayak said that 10 people were arrested in Bhabhua Assembly constituency while one person was arrested in Araria Lok Sabha constituency for creating troubles in polling. Heavy deployment of security forces were made for polling in by-elections to ensure its fairness and scare away the trouble mongers, he added. (UNI)
