Yechuri for defeating Narendra Modi government, State CPI(M) meet ends

Mounting a scathing attack on the Narendra Modi government, CPI(M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechuri today exhorted the people to defeat the economic policies and communal polarisation followed by the BJP-RSS combine.

"The country is passing through an extra-ordinary situation where the constitution itself has come under attack. The Election Commission, Censor Board, and even the judiciary are under clout. If the BJP comes to power again, they will rewrite the Indian Constitution itself," he said.

Addressing a public meeting at thrissur, he said never before the country has witnessed religious outrage, fascism and communal polarisation. The RSS is trying to implement its own agenda with the support of the centre.

The country needed a radical social change for a better living of its people and for that the task is to defeat the fascist forces.

He said the RSS is mounting attack on CPI(M) ever since the party came to power in Kerala. ":Our party is not a party which can be weakened by attacks:, he said.

On the recent incidents of murders in Kannur and other parts of the state, Yechuri said his party never believed in political violence. We have a tradition to challenge the enemy democratically and not by violence".

In a veiled attack on the media, Yechuri said the party's strength is inner party democracy. There may be difference of opinion, but at any point there was no difference.

Referring to media reports that he had openly snubbed some of he party delegates who opposed to his idea of having an electoral understanding with the Congress, Yechury said certain media is bent upon to distort the facts. "Media has a democratic right to report, but they should not misrepresent the facts", he warned.

Yechuri reiterated his stand that CPI(M) will not have any electoral alliance or understanding with Congress. "Our primary objective is to defeat the BJP-RSS combine and for that we will make some tactical steps to mobilise the anti-BJP votes in the next elections. Our draft resolution never advocated any alliance with Congress and I have also not said so", he said.

He said the Modi government was looting the country and corruption has reached at the highest level. The government has no money to write off Rs 80,000 crores as agricultural loans for farmers, but at the same time. it has written off Rs 2,40,000 crores as NPA to the public sector banks

He said the BJP was pursuing and implementing the same. economic policy initiated by the Congress.. As a result, 73 per cent of the total wealth of the country is with only 1 per cent of the people. The wrest 99 per cent of the population is struggling to lead a better life.

Politburo member Prakash Karat and chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and newly elected state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan also spoke. Veteran leader V S Achuthanandan, S Ramachandran Pillai and several party leaders, ministers were present.

The four day state conference of the party concluded with a massive march past by more than 25,000 red volunteers.
