Senior Tamil Nadu BJP leader and Union Minister Pon Radhakrishnan has asked Tamil film star Kamal Hassan not to insult the memory of former President A P J Abdul Kalam by saying he will start his political journey from his memorial in Rameswaram.
Reacting to Kamal's announcement that he will start his political tour from Kalam's residence in Ramewaraam as he shares the late President's dreams, Radhakrishnan said "don't insult the people's President"
Talking to reporters, Radhakrishnan said:"You are free to start your political journey from anywhere. But don't invoke Kalam's name as he was above politics, caste and religion".
State president of the BJP Tamilisai Soundarajan has poked fun at Kamal's claim that his journey is not towards treasury but towards people's welfare. Tamilisai has said he had made enough money and more in films and entering politics at the end of his film career.
In his own convoluted way, Kamal has said he is not entering politics to make money. That is what his contemporary and equally popular star Rajini has also been saying. The statement of both is inane as no wannabe politician will say he is coming to line his pockets. But the BJP prefers Rajini, who speaks of "spiritual politics" which may mean many things to many people, to Kamal who is an atheist and close to the DMK.
The reaction of the two BJP leaders to Kamal's pronouncements show this.
