Polling in the by-election to the high-profile R K Nagar Assembly constituency began at 8 AM on Thursday morning.
Moderate to brisk polling was reported in all the 258 polling booths, where an estimated 2. 19 lakh voters were expected to cast their ballots in the bypoll, necessitated to fill the vacancy caused by the death of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, who represented the seat twice in 2015 and 2016.
A large number of queues were seen in front of all the polling booths, with women turning up in good numbers.
There were 59 candidates in the fray, including the women.
