The second anniversary of the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation Council was marred by exchange of blows between Councillors of ruling CPM and BJP in the opposition. Mayor V.K.Prasanth was hospitalized following injuries. Four BJP Councillors were also injured.
The clash followed difference of opinion at the Corporation Council meeting on Saturday between Mayor Prasanth and BJP Councillors over installation of street lights. A resolution moved by BJP in this regard was opposed by the Mayor . As the meeting dispersed there was a tussle between the Mayor and some BJP Councillors. The Mayor fell down. He and the other Councillors injured were rushed to hospital. However the injuries are not serious according to hospital sources.
CPM and BJP leadership have come out with mutual allegations following the untoward incidents in the Corporation Council. CPM district secretary Anavoor Nagappan alleged there was a BJP conspiracy behind Saturday's development. BJP district president S.Suresh said that the Mayor's unruly behaviour was responsible for the incident.
