Asserting that the Centre is committed to overall development of Jammu and Kashmir, Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Sunday said the people of the Valley need to understand that they can't live in isolation.
Sitharaman, who was on her second visit to the Valley after taking over the portfolio of Defence, was here to attend the meeting of Executive Council of Jawahar Institute of Mountaineering and Winter Sports in the world famous health resort of Pahalgam.
"The centre is committed for overall development of the state and various steps have been taken in this direction, including several centre sponsored schemes," she told reporters here.
Sitharaman added that the state government under the leadership of Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has also taken a number of measures to develop the state.
However, she said the people of the Valley need to understand that they can't live in isolation. 'People should understand that they need to live together with everyone to flourish and grow," she added.
The Defence Minister was in the Valley for two days. On her maiden tour during which she visited forward posts along the Line of Control (LoC) and also reviewed the security situation at the border and hinterland in Kashmir.
