In a setback to the Sharad Yadav faction of the JD(U), the Election Commission rejected its claim of being the 'real party', saying that evidence given by them was not sufficient.
According to Election Commission sources, the poll panel has sent communication to Yadav's camp in response to their application saying it was not supported with valid documents.
The Nitish Kumar faction of JD(U) on September 8 had urged the Election Commission to reject the claim of Sharad Yadav faction over the party symbol saying they have no local standi as the party led by Kumar only was the real JD(U).
The five-member delegation of JD (U) led by senior leader K C Tyagi and comprising party general secretary Sanjay Jha and two Bihar Ministers had submitted a memorandum of their demands to the poll panel.
The memorandum was signed by 71 Bihar MLAs, 30 MLCs in the state, two Lok Sabha MPs, 7 Rajya Sabha MPs, 16 office-bearers, 16 state presidents and 141 National Council members in support of the Bihar Chief Minister being the legally elected JD(U) chief, Tyagi said.
