Four CRPF personnel and 4 cops were killed when militants stormed into heavily fortified district police complex in South Kashmir’s Pulwama on Saturday, triggering a major gun fight in which three terrorists were also killed. In the pre-dawn attack the terrorists of Pakistan based Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) entered the complex by scaling a wall at the extreme end of the huge premises early morning.
The CRPF,Police and Army personnel swung into action immediately and cornered the militants and the family members of police personnel living in the complex were taken out to safe places. Two multi storeyed blocks were blasted by the security forces to flush out the terrorists. Though there was resistance by the locals who resorted to stone pelting the operation continued throughout the day. By afternoon one terrorist was neutralised and body of another was recovered by evening. The search for the third body continued.
The well trained terrorists entered the three blocks of police complex and were firing at the approaching troops. Lt. Gen. J.S. Siddhu, general officer commanding of Srinagar-based XV corps said it was a “fidayeen” attack.
