Mumbai, Apr 14: Former Australia cricketer Mike Hussey has praised MS Dhoni, saying the Indian wicketkeeper-batsman is the 'biggest finisher' the sport of cricket has ever seen. "Dhoni is the greatest finisher of all time that the cricketing world has ever produced," Hussey told Sanjay Manjarekar on ESPNcricinfo's Videocast.
Hussey, who himself was known for his finishing abilities, believed Dhoni's instincts and mental toughness at his peak made opposition captains blink first under pressure. 'Dhoni can preserve his cool and make the opposition captain blink first. Dhoni additionally has unbelievable energy. He is aware of that when he must clear the ropes, he can do it. He has that sort of self-belief.
Truthfully, I did not have that sort of perception in myself,' Hussey said. Having shared a dressing room with the former India captain for seven years across two IPL stints, Hussey said he also picked up a trick or two about chasing from Dhoni while playing for Chennai Super Kings. "I tried not to let it reach 12 or 13 runs an over. And I learnt this from MS Dhoni. He is incredible. He believes that he who panics last wins the game. So Dhoni would keep his cool, and keep it longer because the pressure is on the bowler as well, " he said. MS Dhoni has led CSK right from the inception and has emerged as one of the most successful captains in the history of the league with 3 titles. Hussey, who played 59 IPL matches for CSK, revealed the key reasons behind the franchise’s success in IPL.
"Supportive owners who let the coach (Stephen) Fleming and captain Dhoni decide how to run the team, excellent chemistry between the coach and the captain, Dhoni's leadership, ' he said. “This has constructed a superb continuity within the staff. And after you have continuity, you construct relationships and belief that in any other case takes time to develop,” he added. (UNI)
