Cuttack , Feb 22 : Bengal took vital 82-run first innings lead against Odisha as the hosts were all out at 250 while chasing the visiting side's total 332 runs on day 3rd in the Ranji Trophy quarterfinal match at DRIEMS ground here today. Pacers Nilkanata Das (3/43), Mukesh Kumar (3/51) and Ishan Porel (3/72) shared nine wickets among them and spinner Shahbaz Ahmed finished 1/60 as Odisha batsmen fell while chasing the moderate target in the 5-day knock out play.
Middle order batsman Anustup Majumdar's (157) 8th ton in the first class cricket and Shahbaz Ahmed's career best 82 pushed Bengal to surpass beyond 300 against the disciplined Odisha blowing line headed by Basant Mohanti, who took highest 4/53, followed by Suryakanta Pradhan 3/115. Odisha in the beginning on day 2 looked going great with the scoring but at the fag end they lost the pace conceded some good wickets.
Opener Santanu Mishra scored 62, Debashish Samantray valuable 68 and captain Subhranshu Senapati's 46 helped the host to reach a total of 250 in 102.1 overs. At the time of reporting Bengal were leading by 121 runs with Koushik Ghosh batting at 18 and skipper Abhimanyu Easwaran not out at 21. " We did well at the end to get those wickets (Odisha), that's a big bonus. Opponents batters showed lot of patience, lot of energies and strategies. When things are not going your way be patient- that's good cricket.
