Sachin bats after five and half years in Australia in Bushfire charity match

Batting great and former India cricketer Sachin Tendulkar batted for the first time in five and a half years in Australia in a charity match for Bushfire victims.

In the match, he faced an over from Australian women cricketer Ellyse Perry during Bushfire Bash, a charity match at Junction Oval, Melbourne on Sunday. There was no dearth of talent for the little master as he found a boundary against Ellyse Perry rather easily.

Cricket Australia Tweeted: “Sachin is off the mark with a boundary!”

The Bushfire Bash is a 10-over per side charity match between Ponting XI and Gilchrist XI, where a host of cricket legends are helping raise funds for the Australia bushfire relief effort.

Tendulkar, who is coaching the Ponting XI, decided to wear pads and take his bat after a request from Ellyse Perry. He faced one over of Perry during the innings break of the main match between Ponting XI and Gilchrist XI. Tendulkar got off the mark with a boundary as Perry bowled an over to the India legend with 10 of her Aussie teammates in the field.

Earlier, Ellyse Perry had thrown a challenge to Sachin Tendulkar on social media on Saturday afternoon via a video message.

"Hey Sachin, it’s awesome to have you out here in Australia supporting the Bushfire match. I know you’re coaching one of the teams but a few of us were sitting around last night chatting and we thought it would be absolutely amazing to see you potentially come out of retirement for one over in the innings break out here at Junction Oval," she said. We’d love to have a bowl to you and obviously fetch a few balls from over the boundary that you’ve hit. We thought it would be an awesome way to raise a bit more money for the Bushfire Appeal, which I know you’re already doing so much for."

Tendulkar accepted the challenge and said he would play against his doctor’s advice to face an over from the Australian woman all-rounder. Accepting the challenge, Sachin responded on Twitter: “Sounds great Ellyse. I would love to go out there & bat an over (much against the advice of my doctor due to my shoulder injury). Hope we can generate enough money for this cause, & to get me out there in the middle. “

Soon, the video of Sachin’s precious encounter with Ellyse Perry spread all over social media.
