Kolkata, Feb 2 : Aryan Agarwal beat Samridh Sen and local favourite Akbar Khan in a three way playoff to win the season opener BGA West Bengal State Championship 2020 in FWEPTA on Sunday. Going into the final day, Aryan was trailing by two strokes from overnight leaders Samridh Sen and Akbar Khan. But his ability to play consistently well paid off as he shot round of six over 78 following his first round 73 to force a playoff.
The tiebreak could not be broken in the first hole as three players made a par. But, Aryan drained a 12 foot straight putt at the second playoff hole, the par 3 2nd to deny Samridh and Akbar for his maiden tour title. "I was just focusing on my game and not watching what others were doing, that helped to calm my nerves in the playoffs which played a key role in my victory", Aryan told Golftrade immediately after submitting his card.
"I want to thank Indrajit Sir who has been mentoring me for quite some time now, my coach Jesse Sir and the organizers for this beautifully organised tournament." In the mid-amateur category, Col Kapil Sharma shot rounds of 75 and 78 to win the title by twelve strokes proving his superiority in the category. The runner-up prize went to Captain (IN) Biswadeep Dey.
Super-Senior category witnessed a massive twenty-stroke victory of Subroto Barua with his 180 overall, with a second day score of 95 Anil Karmakar took home the runner-up prize. Sinjini Mukherjee claimed the ladies category following her six-over 78 while Nikita Biswas registered for the runner-up trophy. The principle sponsor of the tournament is Medica Hospitals Pvt Ltd.
