Kolkata, Jan 18 : 2 out of the 3 local wild cards in the qualifying draw of the Boys Singles Under 18 bite dust before entering the final qualifying round of the 28th DKS ITF JUNIOR TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIP 2020, being held at the synthetic courts of the Bengal Tennis Association Complex.
Qualifying Wild Card entrant, Arya Bhattacharya won the opening round against state-mate Aritro Ghosh by an easy 6-0,6-1 but failed to follow up with a second round victory as he fell flat against China's Mai Gao, seeded 2 in the Qualifying Draw by a straight 0-6,4-6.
Another qualifying wild card from Bengal, Tamoghna Das failed to live up to the expectations as he made an early exit in round 1 against Shourya Manik by 2-6,3-6. Bengal's only wild card in the qualifying draw making it to the final round is Rohan Agarwal, who impressed the crowd with a close win against Pratyush Mohanty in the opening round and then against 8th seeded Hrishikesh Parashar in the second.
Agarwal will face 4th seeded Akhilendran Indrabalan in the final qualifying round tomorrow. In the Girls Singles Under 18, local girl Shatavisa Ghosh entered the final qualifying round by a 6-0,6-1 win against Aishwarya Kumar. (UNI)
