Jakarta, Jan 16 : Indian campaign at Indonesia Masters 2020 came to an end after the ouster of World Champion PV Sindhu in the second round of the tournament, here on Thursday. Sindhu took the lead by winning the first set but then lost the next two to go down 21-16, 16-21, 19-21 against Japan's Sayaka Takahashi in a closely-fought contest which lasted for an hour and six minutes.
This is the third time that Sindhu lost to the Japanese in their seven meetings. Sindhu was on a three-match streak against Takahashi and had last lost to Japanese in 2015 Korea Open. After this win, Takahashi has now reduced the head-to-head gap to 3-4.
The fifth seed Sindhu had earlier defeated Japan's Aya Ohori by 14-21 21-15 21-11 in the first round. Saina lost in the first round. (UNI)
