Lucknow, Dec 1: Sourabh Verma the last man left in the Indian camp went down in the men's singles finals after losing to Taiwan's Wang Tzu-wei at Syed Modi International Badminton Tournament here on Sunday while Olympic Champion Carolina Marin of Spain clinched the women's title.
Ranked 36 in the world rankings, Sourabh went down 15-21, 17-21 but kept fighting hard till the last point to eighth seed Wang in a game that lasted for 48 minutes.
Sourabh has a 1-1 career record against Wang.
Earlier, on Saturday, Sourabh had beaten Korea's Heo Kwang Hee 21-1, 16-21, 21-18 in a hard fought match in the semi-final.
Fourth seed Marin thrashed Thailand's Phittayaporn Chaiwan in straight sets 21-12, 21-16 finishing the game in 40 minutes to bag the women's singles title.
Wang and Marin are the first-time winners of this tournament. In the mixed doubles Russia won while the women's doubles title went to Korea. (UNI)
