Surat, Nov 28: Brilliant bowling performances by spinners, M Siddharth (4/18) and Washington Sundar (3/10) helped Tamil Nadu beat Jharkhand by eight wickets and qualify into the semi-final of Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 tournament, here on Wednesday.
Spinners spun a web around Jharkhand batting line-up and bundled them out for only 85, which Tamil Nadu later chased down the target in 13.5 overs.
Jharkhand skipper Saurabh Tiwary's won the toss and opted to bat first which was proven wrong by Tamil Nadu bowlers. The likes of Kumar Deobrat (1), Virat Singh (2), Supriyo Chakraborty (8) and Utkash Singh (5) couldn't do much for Jharkhand and got out cheaply.
At one point of time, Jharkhand were reeling at 29-3 as Tamil Nadu kept on taking wickets at regular intervals. Saurabh Tiwary' (24 off 27 balls) and wicket-keeper Sumit Kumar (19 off 25 balls) showed some fight and helped Jharkhand post 85 all-out in crucial game.
In reply, Tamil Nadu lost their in-form opener C Hari Nishaanth (7) early. They were also struggling at 35-2, as Jharkhand picked the wicket of Shahrukh Khan (24 off 28 balls). However, Sundar (38 not out off 22 balls) took the game away from Jharkhand with his crucial knock. He smashed three towering sixes and stitched a match- winning unbroken 51-run partnership with skipper Karthik (13 not out) to steer the side to victory.
The semi-final line-up will only be clear after the conclusion of other Super League matches. (UNI)
