Lucknow, Nov 24: India Under-19 took a 2-0 lead in the five-match series as they beat Afghanistan Under-19 in the second Youth ODI by two wickets at the Ekana Cricket Stadium B ground here on Sunday.
After skipper Priyam Garg won the toss and elected to bowl, CTL Rakshan, NT Tilak Varma and Manav Suthar scalped two wickets each as India Under-19 restricted Afghanistan Under-19 to 188/9. Afghanistan innings never really got going as they were reduced to 83/7 as Rakshan, Tilak Varma and Suthar shared the spoils for India.
However, Rahmanullah and Abdul Rahman put up a 55-run partnership to help Afghanistan get closer to 140. The partnership though was broken as Akash Singh dismissed Rahmanullah for 47. Rahman, who scored an unbeaten 57 off 72 balls – hitting 4 fours and 2 sixes, though managed to push Afghanistan near 190.
Chasing 189, Garg and Arjun Azad gave India a 43-run opening stand before the former got out for 32 in the tenth over. While India were 52/3 in the 14th over, Shashwat Rawat, who scored 53, and Tilak Varma added 81 runs together to strengthen the team’s position.
Although India lost three quick wickets following the Rawat-Tilak Varma partnership, Yashasvi Jaiswal, who scored an unbeaten hundred in the series opener, scored a brisk 38 not out off 27 balls and helped India secure a two-wicket win, with 7.3 overs to spare. The third game of the five-match series will be played on November 26. (UNI)
