8th All India Police Archery championship begins

Siliguri, Nov 19: West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar on Monday inaugurated the 8th All India Police Archery championship, being organised by Sahastra Seema Bal (SSB) at the frontier headquaters here.

Inspector General, Frontier, SSB, Shrikumar Bandopadhyay earlier received the governor and his wife Sudesh Dhankhar at the airport and escorted them to the programme venue.

Altogether 333 participants are taking part in the championship.

Governor Dhankhar expressed happiness that the championship was being held in the state. The championship will continue till November 23. Governor Dhankhar complimented Arjun Award winner Chekrovolu Swuro of Nagaland Police for participation in the Championship.

He expressed hope that Tista Stadium here will see many new milestones and new bench marks to be set. Governor Dhankhar recalling the feats of Arjun said that Archery in India is considered to be one of the most ancient sports.

In the two most popular Indian epics of Mahabharata and Ramayana, the game of Archery was described quite extensively. All the principal characters of these two epics were described our forefathers as great warriors of Archery. (UNI)
