Bengaluru, Nov 13 : The 26-day Winter Meeting of Bengaluru races will begin
here on November 15 and rail-birds are assured of a very good racing season with the race track prepared very well, Bengaluru Turf Club Chairman and Senior Steward D Vinod Sivappa said here on Wednesday. Speaking reporters, he said the outlay on stakes is Rs 22 crores for the season. But with added money it could surpass Rs 25 crore. This include, the level of prize money, cups, Incentives, subsidy for all the categories during Meeting which has been increased by 2 per cent.
In a new initiative, to encourage the long distance races, prize money for races run for distance more than 1600 m is increased by 25 per cent compared to the other races in the same category. In all, 70 Jockeys including 20 claiming allowance and one foreign jockeys have been issued 'A' license and 40 jockeys including five jockeys claiming allowance have been issued 'B' license. In all 110 jockeys have been issued license during the year 2019-20 and about 85 jockeys are expected to ride during the meeting.
There will be 35 'A' licensed trainers producing their wards in the season. There are 867 horses stabled at present, including 2-year-old horses stabled and and 700 horses participating during the season.
In feature days Five races have been restricted for Indian jockeys claiming allowance and four no whip race.
The season's attractive event of Derby (Gr-I) which has been scheduled to be run as usual on the Indian Republic Day on Sunday 26th January 2020 and Stayers Trail Stakes will be run on Thursday 30th January 2020. (UNI)
