Morozov, Campbell become overall winners at FINA Swimming World Cup

Doha, Nov 10 : Sprint freestyle specialists Vladimir Morozov of Russia and Cate Campbell of Australia took the overall winner trophies on the last day of the seventh leg at the FINA Swimming World Cup which concluded here on Saturday.

It was Morozov's second consecutive overall winner as he dominated 50m, 100m freestyle and 50m backstroke in Doha. The Russian topped the overall standings with 333 points while Danas Rapsys from Lithuania placed second with 234 and Arno Kamminga from the Netherlands was the third with 195.

Campbell finished her season in Doha with high performance in the women's 50m and 100m freestyle. The second place of the overall ranking went to Hungarian Iron Lady Katinka Hosszu with four titles in Doha, including 100m and 200m butterfly, as well as the 200m and 400m IM. The third best place was Sweden's Michelle Coleman.

Campbell, Rapsys, Kamminga and Coleman hit their own career records at the World Cup competitions while three swimmers kept unbeaten streaks in their favorite events among all seven legs. Hosszu closed her World Cup season undefeated in three events: 200m butterfly, 200m and 400m individual medley; Rapsys won the 200m and 400m freestyle, and Morozov wrapped up gold medals in the 50m freestyle and 50m backstroke.

The 2019 edition of the FINA Swimming World Cup comprised three clusters in seven cities and distributed more than 2.5 million US dollars to the best swimmers of the competition. All the meets, held in 50m-pool, were qualifying events for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. (UNI-XINHUA)
