Madrid, Nov 10: Spain coach Roberto Moreno has replaced Valencia striker Rodrigo Moreno with Wolverhamton Wanderers forward Adama Traore for the forthcoming European Championship qualifying matches at home to Malta and Romania.

The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) confirmed the news on Saturday night after Rodrigo was substituted during Valencia's 2-0 win at home to Granada with an apparent back problem. The 23-year-old Adama is a surprise replacement, despite having played for Spain at Under-16, 17, 19 and Under-21 levels.

A product of the Barcelona youth system, he made a handful of appearances for Barca before joining English Premier League side, Aston Villa in 2015 and he has spent the rest of his career in England, with a spell at Middlesbrough before joining Wolves, where he has been a regular under coach Nuno Espiritu Santo.

Adama was born in the town of Hospitalet close to Barcelona, although his parents were born in Mali and it's thought that Mali was also interested in calling the player into its national team. (UNI-XINHUA)
