Fuzhou (China), Nov 9: India's charismatic pair of Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy bowed out of the China Open 2019 semi-finals after losing to the World No 1 Indonesian pair of Marcus Fernaldi Gideon and Kevin Sanjaya, here on Saturday. World No 9 Satwik and Chirag lost their tough fought semi-final 16-21, 20-22 to

Marcus and Kevin, the same opponents to whom they had earlier also suffered defeat in the French Open 2019 final.

After this win, top seeds Marcus and Kevin have extended their head-to-head lead over Satwik and Chirag to 8-0.

The Indian pair had entered the semi-final after beating World No 3 pair of Li Jun Hui and Liu Yu Chen. The two had earlier also stunned sixth seeded Japanese pair of Hiroyuki Endo-Yuta Watanabe to reach the quarterfinals.

Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty have been in great form this season. The duo had recently reached the final of the French Open, to make their first final appearance at a Super 750 level event on the BWF World Tour and reclaim a spot in the top 10 of the latest rankings.

The pair recently also became the first-ever Indian doubles team to win a World Tour 500, when they defeated 2018 world champions Li Jun Hui and Liu Yu Chen of China to win the Thailand Open. (UNI)
