Luanda, Nov 7 : The Angolan Basketball Federation (FAB) released on Thursday the list of the 12 players who will make up the senior women's basketball team to take part in the African Olympic qualifiers in Mozambique, after their participation was in doubt due to financial difficulties.
FAB has finally called up the players after it previously complained over financial difficulties and lack of support saying there was no practical condition to summon the athletes, taking into consideration that the federation could not afford the expenses of the team. The Angolan Basketball Federation is currently facing a harsh period with its chairperson and board resigning in the month of October, leaving the Youth and Sport Ministry responsible for appointing an ad hoc committee to lead it and prepare an election process.
The federation and National Basketball Referees' Association (ANJBA) are also facing a stalemate over a five million kwanzas (11,000 US dollars) payment debt to referees, which has prevented the tip off of the senior men's basketball championship which was slated for October 18. (XINHUA)
