Fuzhou, China, Nov 7 : Indian shuttler Parupalli Kashyap lost against Denmark's Viktor Axelsen in the men's singles second-round and crashed out of the China Open, here on Thursday.
Kashyap had a decent start against seventh seed Axelsen but eventually he went down 13-21 19-21 in a contest which lasted for 43 minutes.
This is the second time that former Commonwealth Games champion Kashyap lost to Axelsen this year. Earlier, he had lost against Axelsen at the India Open in March.
Meanwhile, another Indian shuttler B Sai Praneeth also lost to Anders Antonsen of Denmark 20-22 22-20 21-16, thus ending India's campaign in the men's singles event. India's challenge in women's singles was already over after both PV Sindhu and Saina Nehwal had lost their first round matches.
In the mixed doubles round, Korea’s Seung Jae SEO and Yujung Chae defeated India’s Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Ashwini Ponnappa 23-21, 21-16. Later on the day,
Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty will face sixth seeds Japanese Hiroyuki Endo and Yuta Watanabe in the second round of the men's doubles event. (UNI)
