Bhubaneswar, Nov 2 : The second match in the two-legged FIH Olympic Qualifiers witnessed prolific midfielder Monika achieve the milestone of completing 150 International caps.
She achieved the feat in second match against US at the Kalinga Stadium here on Saturday.
The 25-year-old from Punjab who made her International debut in 2012 against New Zealand in Naples, has since been an integral part of the team.
She was part of the team that won the bronze in the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon, Korea and represented the country in the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, a historic moment for country and had qualified for the event after 36 years.
She was also part of the Indian team that won the silver at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta and also played an important role in the team's magnificent 5-1 win against the US on Friday.
"I could not have achieved this milestone without the support of my teammates and constant motivation from our support staff, Hockey India and of course my family,” stated an elated Monika.
Congratulating Monika on her milestone, Mohd Mushtaque Ahmad, President, Hockey India, said, "she has been part of India's resurgence in the world ranking and has contributed in India's important victories. I wish her the very best in her path towards future milestones." (UNI)
