Bratislava, Oct 31 : Slovan Bratislava defeated Banska Bystrica 3-1 in the 18th round of Slovak premier ice-hockey league Tipsport Liga and moves to the top of the rankings with a two-point lead.

Banska Bystrica took the lead in the home game late in the first period but Bratislava replied with three straight to take a comfortable win, its fourth in a row. Banska Bystrica saw its remarkable nine-game winning streak come to an end.

In another direct battle, Kosice took third position from Zvolen after a close 1-0 win. The visitors' attacker David Skokan scored the only goal of the match in the first period on a powerplay. Zvolen lost to Detva 5-1 in the 16th round and the players tried to make it up to their fans by paying for the tickets this time but failed to deliver a victory over the team from the east of the country.

Miskolc, one of the two Hungarian teams playing in the Slovak league, did not have to break a sweat against the struggling Liptovsky Mikulas, serving the team from the central region of Slovakia a 5-0 defeat. The Canadian-born Francis Beauvillier led the visitors to their fourth successive victory with two goals and an assist. Michalovce succeeded in ending its negative four-game losing streak, edging out Detva 2-0 and sending the visitors down two spots in the rankings.

Nitra defeated its league-table neighbour Poprad 3-1 in an evenly matched game. The visitors tried to rally and even things up in the third period but Nitra refused to let this one slip - with the help of the goalpost after Lukas Handlovsky shot - moving up to eighth place in the rankings.

Trencin pleased its fans with a high-scoring game, dominating Nove Zamky 9-2. The visitors failed to find an answer to the home team's early onslaught, losing 0-5 in the middle of the match. Trencin's Sporting Director and former Slovak national player Branko Radivojevic had to put on a jersey (together with eight junior players) once more because of an injury-plagued roster and even scored the opening goal.
