Chandigarh, Oct 31 : Indian Davis Cupper Rohan Bopanna and partner Denis Shapovalv of Canada defeated Benoit Paire of France and Fernando Verdasco of Spain in straight sets 6-4, 7-5 in the doubles first round match in the €5.207,405 ATP 1000 Rolex Paris Masters.
There were numerous breaks in both sets before Bopanna-Shapovalv emerged winners in 63 minutes.They won a total of 62 points in comparison to 47 by Paire-Verdasco who saved three break points out of six and won on break point out of two. Bopanna-Shapovalv saved one break points out of two and won three of six breakpoints.
Bopanna-Shapovalov now meet Maximo Gonzalez of Argentina and Austin Krajicek of USA in the pre-quarter-final.Gonzalez-Krajicek defeated third seeds Lukasz Kubot of Poland and Marcelo Melo of Brazil 7-6 (5), 4-6, 10-8.
Rajeev Ram of USA and Joe Salisbury of Great Britain had a smooth sailing in the doubles first round as they beat Robin Haase and Wesley Koolof of Netherlands in straight sets 6-1, 6-3. (UNI)
