New Delhi, Oct 30: India's women wrestler Jyoti (50kg) reached the semi-finals in the ongoing U23 World Wrestling championships in Budapest, Hungary on Wednesday while four other wrestlers lost their opening round bouts.
Jyoti displayed her powerful skills to outwit Maria Leorda of Moldova in the last 8 bout. Maria, who won Junior world championship bronze medal this year, was no match for the Indian as she wrapped the bout by technical superiority with scoreline of 12-2.
Jyoti will now wrestle against three-time age-group World champion Kika Kagata of Japan in the semi-finals. Kagata is the Junior world champion of 2017 and twice cadet world champion.
Earlier the 20-year-old Indian wrestler defeated Tatsiana Yafrmenka of Belarus in the last 16 bout. The Indian wrestler outwitted her taller opponent from Belarus 6-1. Jyoti is the bronze medal winner of U23 Asian Championships in 2018.
In the 76kg category India’s Pooja was no match for Precious Rosanna Bell of US. In 55kg India’s Rani Rana lost to another American wrestler at the qualification stage. In 68kg Suman tried her best against YingYing Wang of China but gave the lead in the last 20 seconds to lose out to Chinese champion.
In the 59kg, Pooja Yadav lost out to Tianina Kennett of Canada by 6-2. (UNI)
