Chandigarh, Oct 26 : Vishnu Vardhan of India, pairing with Japanese Toshihide Matsui, lost to Michail Elgin of Russia and Denis Istomin of Uzbekistan 4-4, 6-3, 7-10 in the doubles semi-final of 54,160 Liuzhou ATP Challenger (China) on Saturday.
Elgin/Istomin served four aces and committed one double fault in comparison to three aces and two double faults by Vardhan/Matsui. Both pairs sets identical five break points each of seven apiece. They also won two break points each from seven each.
Elgin/Istomin won 66 points and Vardhan/Matsui earned 60 points. Vardhan/Matsui earned $ 1080 and 29 ATP points.
Elgin/Istomin won the first set at 6-4 after breaking Vardhan/Matsui in the seventh game and took a 4-3 lead. The Indian-Japanese pair hit back and grabbed the second set. They reached to a 3-0 lead after breaking second service of Elgin/Istomin. Another break in the sixth game helped Vardhan/Matsui establish a 4-2 lead and claim the set 6-3.
However, in the match tie-breaker, Elgin/Istomin clinched the issue in their favour by winning at 10-7. (UNI)
