Kochi, Oct 24 : Mumbai City FC defeated Kerala Blasters FC (1-0) in the sixth Hero Indian Super League tournament at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Kochi on Thursday.
Amine Chermiti's goal in the 83rd minute pulled off the victory over Kerala Blasters who have the home advantage and started the season with a win over ATK. The big lead for Mumbai City FC came from a poor defending by the home side. Two Blaster's defenders failed to block the cross from Souvik Chakrabarti and the ball falls for Chermiti who produces a fantastic finish.
Keeper Amrinder Singh produced a stunning last-minute save to help the men in blue to start their season with a win.
In the first half two back-to-back free kicks were awarded for both the teams. In the first, Mumbai City FC's Paulo Machado takes the kick and deliver it to the far post but Amine Chermiti is caught offside.
In the very next minute free kick was awarded to Blasters too. Sergio Cidoncha delivers it to the far post aiming Bartholomew Ogbeche, but the Blaster's skipper was unable to connect with the ball as expected.
Towards the end of the first half, another free kick was taken by Cindoncha to the far post for a waiting Jairo, who heads it but Amrinder managed to push it for a corner. The corner was delivered into the middle and jairo heads it down to the far corner where Mouhamadou Gning tries to poke it in but gets his hand in the way. The hand ball earned Gning a yellow card.
Amine Chermiti's goal towards the end of the match breaks the tie. The Blaster's shattered defence was tested again in the very next minute. Kerala Keeper Bilal Khan comes off his line and collided with Jairo who was attempting to block the ball. Mumbai's Serge Kevin made a big miss to target the ball into the empty net. A golden opportunity for the visitors to raise the lead went in vain.
Keeper Amrinder Singh produced a stunning last-minute save. Sahal finds Ogbeche in the box. Ogbeche shoots it for goal but Amrinder somehow manages to get his hand to it and push it away for a corner.(UNI)
