Chandigarh, Oct 9 : Down by one set, Ramkumar Ramanathan of India staged a fine rally to oust Tobias Kamke of Germany in three-setter 2-6, 7-6 (4), 6-4 in the first round of €92,040 ATP World Tour Vendéspace (France) on Tuesday.
Ramanathan, ranked 182nd, kept his first service 61 per cent in while serving eight aces and committing the same number of double faults. His rival served three aces and committed three double faults and kept his first service 52 per cent in.
Ramanathan saved three break points out of six and won two out of three break points, while Kamke, ranked 214th, saved one out of three break points and won three out of six breakpoints. The match lasted over two hours.
The Chennai lad will now meet Dennis Novak, seeded 13, from Austria. Novak got a bye in the first round.(UNI)
