Chandigarh, Oct 3 : India's ace tennis player Rohan Bopanna and his Canadian partner Denis Shapovalov defeated Fabrice Martin of France and Yasutaka Uchiyama of Japan in the men's doubles first round match in the $1,895,290 Rakuten Open ATP Challenger in Japan.
Bopanna and Shapovalov outclassed their opponents in straight sets 6-3, 7-6 (3) in a match which lasted for one hour and 21 minutes on Wednesday. The Indo-Canadian pair served seven aces and committed six double faults. This pair saved four break points out of six and won three break points out of 12.Martin/Uchiyama served one ace and saved nine out of 12 break points and won two break points out of six.
In the doubles quarter-final, French pair of Nicolas Mahut and Edouard Roger-Vasselin defeated qualifiers Divij Sharan of India and Artem Sitak of New Zealand 7-6 (5) 6-3 in a match which lasted for one hour and 21 minutes. Mahut and Roger-Vasselin fired eight aces and committed one double fault. This pair saved seven break points out of nine and won three out of 11 breakpoints. Sharan/Sitak served four aces while committing two double faults. They saved eight out of 11 break points and won two out of nine breakpoints. (UNI)
