Australia’s Andrew Bogut awaits FIBA ruling on World Cup tirade

Agency News

Sydney, Oct 1 : Aussie basketball veteran Andrew Bogut confirmed on Tuesday that he is still waiting to hear back from FIBA over potential sanctions regarding a foul-mouthed tirade at the recent World Cup in China.

The Boomers centre and former NBA star made several lewd comments criticising official's decision making after Australia was eliminated from the competition in a semi final match against Spain.

"I've done what I can with FIBA. I'm waiting to hear back from them. Once I hear back, I'll comment on it further," Bogut told reporters. The 34-year-old went on to say that he still feels the pain of Australia missing out on a medal yet again at the World Cup, in what was a crushing repeat of the 2016 Olympics.

"It still hurts today, the way it all ended. Obviously disappointing how close we were once again, had the same conversation like we had after Rio," he said. Bogut, who will play for the Sydney Kings in Australia's upcoming NBL season, said that for now he will be focused on that, before turning his sights on the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

"The goal for me was always to get to Tokyo, which was a part of why I signed in the NBL," Bogut said. Australia's NBL season begins this week and will see the Sydney Kings head north to take on the Cairns Taipans.
