Beijing, Sep 29 : Wang Yafan advanced to the women's singles second round of the China Open at the expense of fellow Chinese youngster Wang Xinyu here on Sunday.

Currently enjoying a career-best 48th place, Wang Yafan conquered her compatriot 6-1, 6-2 in less than one hour. "I didn't make many unforced errors today. It's quite important," Wang Yafan said.

After both players held serve in two games into the duel, Wang Yafan stormed to a 6-1 win in the first set. Having celebrated her 18th birthday on Thursday, Wang Xinyu was on her maiden appearance in senior matches of the China Open as a wild card.

The teenager slid away in her service early in the second set after seeing several deuces between the duo. Wang Yafan didn't give her compatriot many chances of coming back into contention before securing a spot in last 32 at 6-2.

Wang Yafan had better first and second serves, winning 85 percent of her first serves.

"She is familiar with me and my style because we have been practicing together. For Chinese players, when we meet together in a big tournament, both of us will feel pressure. So it's more about the mentality and how you play on court," commented Wang Yafan.

"I am still a little bit nervous to play on a big stage like this," added Wang. "I guess I was just a bit too tight at the beginning, and couldn't get things together." (UNI-XINHUA)
