Ex-Team India skipper Azhar elected as HCA Prez

Hyderabad, Sep 27: Fomer India captain Mohammad Azharuddin was elected as the President of Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) on Friday.

The 56-year-old took a strong lead in the counting of votes held here and eventually won by 173 votes while his rival Prakash Chand Jain securing 73 votes.

The former captain -- who featured in 99 Tests and 334 ODIs for India -- filed his nomination for the HCA President's post last week.

Despite being one of the most successful captains for India, allegations of match-fixing provided an emphatic full stop to his career.

He also made his foray into politics by joining the Congress party in 2009 and was also elected as a Member of Parliament.(UNI)
