Bhubaneswar, Sep 27 : A world class badminton Academy with high performance centre will be set up in Kalinga Stadium by the Pullela Gopichand Badminton Foundation (PGBF) with support from Dalmia Cements Bharat Limited (DCBL).
The Odisha government has already roped in PGBF to set up the high performance centre and the DCBL has committed Rs 30 crore to the foundation through CSR initiative to set up the centre to promote badminton in the state. A comprehensive presentation of the vision, design and road for setting up of world class badminton academy was made before Chief minister Naveen Patnaik at the Lok Seva Bhawan here today.
The construction of the centre will commence by December 2019 and would be completed by December 2020 and the badminton academy will start functioning at the high performance centre from December 2020. The academy will offer world class training and coaching facility under the direct supervision and guidance of legendary badminton player and coach Pullela Gopi Chand.
Appreciating the efforts, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said with the vision of Gopichand and support of Dalmia cement, the high performance centre will be one of the international standard training centres of the country. The state government, the Chief Minister said had provided three acres of land for the centre and constructing a multi purpose Indoor hall inside the Kalinga Stadium which will be ready by February 2020.
Mr Patnaik said the state government is putting forward its focus on setting up of high performance centre on various sports adding that the badminton academy is going to add another feather to its cap by nurturing young badminton talents. PGBF founder and ace coach P Gopi chand, Dalmia Cement MD Puneet Dalmia, Chief Secretary Asit Kumar Tripathy were present on the occasion. (UNI)
