Chandigarh, Sep 21 : Ramkumar Ramanathan on Friday defeated 247th ranked and 14th seeded Daniel Masur of Germany 7-5, 7-6 (4) in the men's singles quarter-final of €46,600 Murray Trophy Challenger Tennis Tournament in Glasgow (Great Britain).

He now faces 16th seed Alexandre Muller (France) in the semi-final. Muller rallied to get past Nicola Kuhn of Spain 3-6, 7-5, 6-4. The 179th ranked player from Chennai has not dropped even a single set and also not broken even in a game in the three matches he has played so after getting a bye in the first round.

Ramkumar partnering Marek Gengel of Czech Republic, has also attained the semi-final position in the doubles after upsetting fourth seeded Polish duo of Karol Drzewiecki and Szymon Walkow 6-4, 3-6, 10-3. In doubles semi-final Ramanathan/Gengel are pitted against Top seeds Jamie Murrary (Great Britain) and John-Patrick Smit (Australia).

In an interview, Ramkumar Ramanathan said " I have been really serving well throughout this tournament so far. I have been playing with a lot of energy. I have been able to sustain throughout the match and that is the key in all the match." " I had a good one week training for the two-week pack to focus on the way I want to play. My coach Juan Balcells is with me and he has been guiding and helping me a lot on court and I respect that a lot. My goal this year is to finish among the top 100. For the last few weeks I have been working a lot. I am enjoying every bit of what I am doing." (UNI)
