Nur-Sultan (Kazakhstan), Sep 17 : Asian Games gold medallist Vinesh Phogat (53kg) a big medal hope at World Wrestling Championships received a setback after she lost 0-7 to reigning champion Mayu Mukaida of Japan here on Tuesday.
Vinesh lost to two-time world champion from Japan for the second time this season. Ranked sixth, Vinesh dominated in her opening bout against Olympic bronze medallist Sofia Mattsson in a one sided match by 13-0.
The Indian wrestler will have to wait for Mukaida till she enters final, which will give her a second chance at winning her maiden World Championships medal via repechage.
The 25-year-old switched to 53kg from 50kg category at the beginning of the season and has been a good year for her clinching three gold medals at the Yasar Dagu, Poland Open and Spain Open. (UNI)
