Shanghai, Sep 17 : The 2019 ISU Shanghai Trophy in Short Track Speed Skating, Figure Skating and Synchronized Skating will be held at the city's Oriental Sports Center next month, the Organizing Committee of the Shanghai Trophy announced on Tuesday.
Top world figure skaters and short track speed skaters from China, Russia, Hungary and other countries and regions will take part in the October 3-5 competition. China's star figure skating pair Sui Wenjing andHan Cong, winners of the 2019 World Championships, and Peng Cheng/Jinyang, fourth at the Worlds, will bring their new programs to Shanghai. China's Jin Boyang, 2018 Four Continents Championships winner, will also attend.
Other top skaters include "Russian Supergirl" Evgenia Medvedeva, and Elizabet Tursynbaeva of Kazakhstan, the first female player who finished a quadruple salchow in senior competition at the World Championships of the year.
Nearly 60 short track speed skaters will take part in the Shanghai Trophy. 23-year-old Han Tianyu will lead the Chinese team. The Hungarian Liu brothers, winners at the Pyeongchang Games, will also be in Shanghai.
The Oriental Sports Center will host the Trophy after having just hosted the Shanghai events for the FIBA Basketball World Cup. According to the organizing committee, the venue will be pre-cooled starting September 27, and athletes are expected to be able to train starting on October 1.( XINHUA)
