Chennai, Sep 1 : Runner-up Indian Army started on a solid note, but ended up finishing on the wrong side as they lost to Bengaluru Hockey Association (BHA) 1-3 in the MCC-Murugappa Gol Cup All India Hockey Tournament here on Sunday.
In other matches, Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu (HUTN), yet to taste its first success, managed to hold Central Secretariat for a 2-2 draw, while Indian Navy got the better of Punjab and Sind Bank by a solitary third quarter goal by Sunny Malik.
The Indian Army-BHA match started promisingly, with the armymen forging ahead as early as in th3e 11th minute, when Rajnesh Salaria found the target.
But BHA came back strongly and pumped in three goals in a space of ten minutes to take the stuff out of the Armymen to keep its chances alive of making it to the semifinals.
Mohd Naeem Udin restored parity in the 27th minute and Pruthvi Raj and Pradhan Somanna sealed the fate with a penalty corner conversion in the 30th minute and a field goal by the latter seven minutes later.Earlier, HUTN took the lead in the 28th minute through Vinod Rayer and Central Secretariat found the equaliser from Umar Mohd in the 42nd minute and also wrested the lead through Mithlesh Kumar eight minutes later.
But Kannan M drew parity in the 56th minute to make it 2-2.Both the teams fought hard in the fourth and final quarter but a decisive lead eluded them.(UNI)
