Madrid, Aug 26: The President of the Spanish Football League (LaLiga), Javier Tebas has highlighted the importance of China and the Chinese market to his organization.
Speaking from Kunming where he witnessed the laying of the first stone for LaLiga's permanent academy in China, Tebas told the Spanish newspaper 'Diario Marca' that "along with the USA and after Spain, China is our most important market."
He said that "four years ago China stopped being an exotic and distant country for us. We had two offices and 10 people working there," he said, adding that in 2013 China "gave us four million euros (4.4 million US dollars) from audiovisual rights and now it is 100 million euros."
''I think China is an incredible place with an incredible possibility to expand. We are working to have many more fans in China and we can't forget them."
"It would be very clumsy if we didn't understand that China is a key part of the football industry," continued Tebas.
He also discussed the academy being constructed in Kunming, saying that "if you want to grow in any country, you have to be part of their society. It is not enough to just have the best players and transmit the games by satellite."
"The academy that we have opened in Kunming is the biggest project we have in China and we aim to form part of Chinese society," said Tebas. (UNI-Xinhua)
