New Delhi, Aug 25 : President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra hailed star shuttler PV Sindhu for scripting history becoming the first Indian to bag gold at the World Badminton Championships in Basel, Switzerland on Sunday.
"Congratulations for winning the BWF World Championship. This is a proud moment for the entire country. Your magic on the court, hardwork and perseverance enthralls and inspires millions. Best wishes World Champion for all your future battles," President Kovind tweeted.
"Congratulations to her for winning the Gold at the BWF World Championships. The passion and dedication with which Sindhu pursued badminton is inspiring. Her success will inspire generations of players," PM Modi wrote on twitter.
Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju also took to twitter, "India is proud of you. My hearty congratulations! Govt will continue to provide best support & facilities to produce champions."
Sindhu defeated her rival Japanese player Nozomi Okuhara in straight sets 21-7, 21-7 in the finals of World Badminton Championships.(UNI)
