Accra, Aug 25: Ghana's Ashantigold SC thumped Akonangui FC of Equatorial Guinea 3-0 in the second leg of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Confederation Cup in Obuasi on Saturday.
Striker Shafiu Mumuni scored a hat-trick for the Miners, who went into the game as favorites, having secured a 1-1 draw in the first-leg away a fortnight ago.
Mumuni scored in the first, sixth and eighth minutes as Ashantigold, one of Ghana's two representatives in this year's CAF inter-club competitions, made mincemeat of the visitors at the encounter played at the Len Clay sports stadium in the mining city of Obuasi.
The Equatorial Guinean side failed to poke home the few decent chances that came their way as the home team was resolute at the back.
By this feat, the Ghanaian giants book a place in the next stage of the qualifying rounds of the Confederation Cup on a 4-1 aggregate, to face Moroccan outfit RS Berkane, who was last season's finalist in the CAF's second-tier club competition. (UNI-Xinhua)
