New Delhi, Aug 23 : After receiving accolades in powerlifting, Gaurav Sharma is ready to test his skills in shooting as well.
The 32-year-old is currently participating in 10m pistol event of 35th Delhi State Shooting Championship organised by Delhi State Rifle Association.
"I have been doing shooting from the past six months. I am in a learning process and my coach Falaq Sher Alam is guiding me in achieving my dream. I know medal won't come in current events but I am confident in the near future," Gaurav said.
About switching from powerlifting, he said, "I always liked it (shooting) after powerlifting and wanted to join it from the past few months."
Gaurav to his credit has new world record under his belt with a lift of 242 kg. He bagged two gold at the European Championships earlier this year. The Delhi athlete also clinched two yellow metals at 2016 World Powerlifting Championships in England.
Earlier in 2007, he also fetched gold medals at the Commonwealth Championships in New Zealand.
Last year he was conferred with the prestigious Mahatma Gandhi Leadership Award in London.
Initially starting out as a weightlifter, Gaurav later switched to powerlifting under the guidance of Dronacharya awardee coach Bhupinder Dhawan.(UNI)
