New Delhi, Aug 20 : Wrestler Sushil Kumar on Tuesday defeated his opponent Jitender Kumar 4-2 in the trials here at KD Jadhav Stadium earning his spot in the Indian contingent for the Wrestling World Championships which begins at Nur-Sultan in Kazakhstan on September 14.
Sushil started on an aggressive note during the first period with 4-0 lead, but in the second period ended causing an eye injury to Jitender to which he later admitted his mistake.
However, Jitender fought back and thrice got hold of Sushil's right leg, but could not garner points.
Meanwhile, Jitender managed to get two push-out points further taking the game to a close contest but lost the game to two-time Olympic medallist Sushil Kumar. Sushil will fight in the 74kg category during the World Championships.
Though Jitender lost to Sushil, but still has hope if he goes past Veerdev Gulia (79kg) on August 23. On Tuesday others who earned their spot in the Indian contingent are Rahul Aware (61kg), Karan Mor (70kg) and Praveen (92kg). (UNI)
