Kolkata, Aug 12 : Chess-boxing Association of Bengal is all set to host the 8th national Chess Boxing Championship in sub-junior, junior and senior, Men and Women at Khudiram Anushilan Kendra between August 23-25. Altogether 500 participants from all over the country have confirmed their entry in different categories- in 66 weight division for nearly 244 medals for the winners. Beginning age of the competitor is 7 years and maximum 40.
The winners have a chance to be selected for Team India for the World Championship for Chess Boxing. Chess Boxing is a hybrid fighting sport that combines two traditional sports - Chess and Boxing (A single contest consists of 11 rounds, 6 rounds of chess and 5 rounds of boxing). The competitors fight in alternating rounds of Chess and Boxing. What was initially only thought to be an area of performance quickly turned into a fully developed competitive sport. Chess Boxing is particularly popular in Germany, Great Britain, India and Russia.UNI
